Unadorned

Unadorned

The owl blinked over yellow eye moons,

then dismissed the screaming, diving jays

with one hiss each.

Every heart knows the unadorned truth.

It is this clean hiss,

this unruffled stand,

this flash of mirrored light.

A taloned grip holds us to the branch.

What is it

that lifts you to the sky?

  4. Hi Tricia. Just discovered your blog. Brought me right back to Visions of Nature, especially Mary Oliver. I especially like the simplicity and images of this poem. Hope to reconnect in person some day.

    • Caroline! I’m so happy to see you here (and yes, in person someday. YES). I’m curious how you found this blog! Let me know, if you come back. Thank you, and much love to you and family Sparling.

      • Hi Tricia. I can’t recall now how exactly I came across Bearbones. Haven’t visited in a while but just noticed some new additions so will indulge as I lay on the couch, a bit under the weather – enough to be home from school but not enough to be miserable 🙂 I’m about to jump on that Turner letter too!
